In the middle course of the River Tisa, on its very bank, about 40 kilometers from the border with Hungary, is the town of Senta, one of the oldest in the province of Vojvodina.

It was built around a monastery in 1216, and its name comes from a noble family which had estates in this area and near the banks of the river - it is assumed that they are the founders of the town.

It was attacked by the Mongols, and then by the Turks. Three great fires - in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, slowed down the development of Senta and destroyed the City Hall and a large church on the Main Square. Then a new, monumental City Hall was built, along with several Art Nouveau-style buildings in the center.

This town is an attraction for visitors from other parts of Serbia, especially for those who like hunting, ferry rides, and historically significant cultural monuments.

The City Hall with a tower, the fire station, a complex on the banks of the Tisa that keeps the memory of the famous Battle of Senta, the parish palace and museum, the church of St. Archangel Michael, the church of St. Anthony, the home of Stevan Sremec and the House of Old Crafts are just some of the attractions not to be missed.

There is also the Chocolate Museum in Senta, where visitors can see how this delicacy has been made throughout history, but also a model of the Senta municipality building cast in chocolate.
