President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin congratulated President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic on his convincing victory in the presidential elections during a telephone conversation on Wednesday, and on the very significant success of Vucic's SNS in the parliamentary elections.

He wished President Vucic luck and success in his responsible position as head of state, and Serbia's progress in the next five years, convinced that Serbia and Russia will preserve their truly friendly relations.

President Vucic thanked Putin for his congratulatory message and said that the Republic of Serbia will continue to pursue the policy of the European path, while preserving its sincere and traditional friendly relations with the Russian Federation.

The two presidents analyzed the economic situation and bilateral relations in the field of energy and trade, which recorded growth in 2021 and in the first two months of 2022, which is a good sign of our successful cooperation, the Serbian president's press service said reported.

President Vucic informed President Putin about the difficulties that Serbia is facing when importing crude oil and expressed confidence that the leadership of Gazprom Neft and the Republic of Serbia, as well as partners from the EU, will find a way out of this situation.

At the same time, Presidents Vucic and Putin noted that a long-term contract to buy Russian gas, which Serbia has, expires on May 31 this year, and that it is necessary to start, as soon as possible, talks about the price, quantities and other conditions for buying this energy source that is important to Serbia.

Finally, President Putin informed President Vucic about the events in Ukraine and the reasons that have guided Russia to carry out, as President Putin said, operations in Ukraine, while President Vucic referred to the positions of Seerbia and its ouncil for National Security that are already well known to Putin, expressing hope that the conflict in Ukraine will end as soon as possible.

During today's telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on his convincing victory in the presidential election, and the two leaders agreed to continue personal contacts, the Kremlin has announced.

"Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the Serbian leader on his convincing victory in the presidential election of April 3 of this year, and on the success that the Serbian Progressive Party he leads achieved in the early parliamentary election," the press service said in a statement, carried by TASS.

It added that, at Vucic's request, Putin informed him about the course of negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives, RIA Novosti reported.
