German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is coming to Belgrade in mid-June, where he will meet with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Tanjug has learned in Berlin.

Earlier today, Scholz announced that he would travel to the Western Balkans before the meeting of the European Council, which is scheduled for June 23, in order to convey the message to the region that it has a place in the European Union.

"Six countries of the Western Balkans with aspirations toward the EU, namely Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo, are already in the multi-year reform process," Scholz told MPs in Berlin, Reuters reported earlier.

He added that "today, more than ever, their integration into the EU is in the strategic interest of Brussels" pointing out, as the British agency said, the influence of foreign powers in the region, including Russia.

"Respecting our obligations towards them is not just a question of our credibility," Scholz said.
