Paradise gates open on Serbian mountain: Sokolarica, the incredibly beautiful observation deck on Tara

Legend has it that even the god Tar, after whom it got its name, chose this western Serbia mountain as his home because of its unreal beauty. Everywhere you go, you will be greeted by spectacular landscapes, but also roads that lead to a large number of landscaped observation decks.

The best known of them, both in Serbia and around the world, is certainly Banjska Stena - but Sokolarica stands side by side with it in terms of beauty. It is located about 1,500 meters from the center of Sokolina, and it offers a magnificent view.

"Sokolarica is perhaps the most beautiful observation point in the Tara National Park, although it may not be as well-known as the others. It offers a fascinating view of the canyon of the Raca River, the steep surrounding rocks, Crnjeskovo, Kaludjerske Bare and Krstasta Stena. It is located at 993 meters above sea level and depending on how cloudy it is, you will be able to enjoy truly incredible views here," Milos Lazic from Bajina Basta told RINA.

You can reach the Sokolarica observation decks on foot, but if you are not a fan of walking, you can even get to the top by car. Due to the favorable terrain and its characteristics, it is ideal for beginner mountaineers. The path to Sokolarica is marked with information boards, and when you reach your destination, a bench and a protective fence await you, so you can safely enjoy the beauty of the Tara National Park.

"The Sokolarica observation deck is located on the edge of the Sokolina settlement, and it is a locality made up of several smaller, connected observation decks located opposite Crnjeskovo and Racanska Sljivovice, and above Klisura Raca. Although the name of the observation decks does not suggest so (its root is in the Serbian word for falcon - "soko") - golden eagles nest on these cliffs," said Ranko Milanovic from the Tara National Park.

If you decide to go for a walk in this area, you can often come across forest game, which will complete enjoyment of the untouched nature of Mt. Tara. Over the summer, this tourist destination was full of visitors from Serbia and the region, and after a break of several years because of the pandemic, foreign guests from farther away are now returning.
