The typical migrant from Serbia is a male between 20 and 24 years old, with a high school diploma, unemployed, unmarried, who lives with his parents or as a subtenant and has relatives and friends abroad.

These are the conclusions from the survey of young people's views on emigration from Serbia, conducted and presented by Danica Santic, associate professor at the Faculty of Geography, and presented at the conference "RE:Integrate 2022: For a better life and reintegration of returnees" which was held under the auspices of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), reports 021.rs.

Germany wants to help people who want to stay in their birth country, in their natural environment, and build a quality life there, it was assessed at the conference.

As has been pointed out, population migration and the desire of young people to move out of the country are a big challenge for the economy, not only in Serbia but throughout the Western Balkans.

The unfavorable economic situation in the country and the possibility of obtaining better-paid jobs abroad are the most common reasons for young people to decide to leave Serbia.
