A horrific video of the death of Mihajlo L. (26), which happened last night in Kralja Aleksandra Boulevard in Belgrade, has been published on social networks.

It shows an Audi running into a young man and a young woman at high speed.

As can be seen from the video, he was literally thrown from the pedestrian crossing by the car, while she narrowly escaped death.

The serious traffic accident resulted in the death of Mihajlo L. (26) while his girlfriend Viktoria L. (24) was injured. According to eyewitnesses the accident was caused by the driver who was overtaking another car.

"He was speeding towards Ustanicka Street, overtook the car in front of him, failed to return to his lane and mowed down the boy and the girl. It was terrible... People gathered immediately. The driver of the Audi immediately got out, he was distraught... Such sadness," they said.

The accident happened near Kluz, and the medical team declared death when they arrived.

The Audi driver was detained on order of the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade.

Mihajlo died while crossing the street holding hands with his girlfriend.

When the car hit him he was thrown 50 meters away the force of the impact, the car then hit another that was parked and finally slammed into a wall. The driver was with his girlfriend and after the accident approached the victim trying to help.

The young man who has been arrested had a valid driver's license. Over the last two year, he was sanctioned for driving without a license, speeding and not wearing a seat belt.

After the investigation, his blood and urine samples were taken for analysis. The tests showed that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
