A man, N.V. (86), was killed last night in a Zemun, Belgrade home for the elderly, and the police have detained his roommate N.N. (88). The suspect has been admitted to the psychiatric hospital "Dr. Laza Lazarevic."

The body of the victim was transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, and the first results of the investigation indicate that he was killed with several blows to the head inflicted with a mobile phone. It is suspected that the murder was preceded by an altercation.

"N.N. was angry at N.V. because he suspected that the latter had stolen from him. An argument broke out, then N.N. took the mobile phone and started hitting N.V. on the head until he killed him. The victim had come to the institution a few days ago," says our source close to the case.

As Telegraf.rs has learned, the suspect in the crime suffers from dementia and it was difficult to have any conversation with him on the subject of the murder. He will most likely undergo expert examination that will determine whether he was aware of the act he was committing at the time of the crime.

Authorities react

An 88-year-old resident of the gerontological center in Bezanijska Kosa killed another resident (aged 86) last night, and the investigation by the competent authorities is ongoing, Tanjug learned from the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs.

As stated, the Ministry has been informed about the case and will send out inspectors in order to determine, in accordance with its competences, whether there were any violations of work procedures on the part of the employees.

"The investigation will be carried out by the police and the competent prosecutor's office, which will determine the facts that led to the case," said the Ministry.
