The hearing in the case of Sladjan Trajkovic has been postponed until August 4 due to the failure to submit complete documentation to the defendant's lawyer, reports kosovo-online.com.

Lawyer Dejan Vasic requested it, so the reading of the indictment was postponed until August 4.

The trial will be closed to the public.

The trial of Sladjan Trajkovic, a Serb from northern Kosovska Mitrovica, who is charged by the special prosecutor's office for allegedly committing war crimes in Kosovo committed in 1998 and 1999, started today in the Basic Court in Pristina.

Trajkovic's lawyer Dejan Vasic made numerous accusations against the work of the court and the prosecutor's office, pointing out that the court allowed itself to be reduced to "an ordinary scribe of the special prosecutor's office in Pristina."

"This is the most scandalous behavior of the prosecution that I have seen in my 16 years of work and as the defense attorney in over 10 war crimes cases. We only got what the prosecutor wanted from the case file," Vasic said in court.

Vasic also requested that the court set bail for Trajkovic to be released to house arrest due to his ill health, but the prosecution objected to that.

Trajkovic served in the Kosovo police until last November when he, along with other Serbs in the north, decided to quit in protest. He was arrested on war crimes charges on December 15 in northern Kosovska Mitrovica and has been in custody ever since.
