Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and member of the ruling SNS party's presidency, Goran Vesic, said today that the opposition's request to call early parliamentary elections will be considered in accordance with the Constitution and laws, adding that the SNS has always been happy to participate in elections.

"We are a party that has never run away from elections and a party that most often went to elections as a ruling one, because we believe that it's always right to check the level pf trust among the citizens. We have no problem with that. For us, elections are a holiday where we go before the voters with the results of our work and plans for the coming period. For a part of the opposition, elections are a time to dream of coming to power, without offering anything to the voters," Vesic told Euronews.

He also observed that the SNS is the only party that has democratized electoral conditions, lowering the threshold from five to three percent, thanks to which many parties have entered the parliamen.

"If we were to return to five percent, many of them would only be able to see the parliament on a postcard," stated Vesic.

He also said that now the opposition's official request for elections has arrived for the first, because, he recalled, that not their priority before. He reminded that the opposition leaders had been threatening President Vucic for months against calling elections.

"In accordance with the Constitution and the laws, that request will be considered by the president of the Republic. We are always ready for elections. Regular local elections are coming next year and we have no problem with that," Vesic repeated.

Commenting on the behavior of the opposition during the last session of the Serbian National Assembly, when opposition deputies booed, shouted and jumped on the benches, Vesic said that he was sure that their voters did not vote for such behavior.

"The parliament should be a place for heated debates, to convince each other with arguments, although we don't have to agree on everything. But not for that kind of behavior. I'm sure that such frivolous people will not gain the trust of citizens, serious people will, whatever policy they lead," added Vesic.
