Telekom Srbija General Director Vladimir Lucic says that during the day, about 5,000 users located in the north of Kosovo and Metohija will again have reception on their phones.

Lucic said that today two base stations located in the northern part of Kosovo and Metohija will be connected by an alternative route.

In that part of northern Kosovo, "from Leposavic, then towards the administrative line that includes Lesak, the village of Josanica, and a part of the road from the administrative line of Leposavic we will restore the mobile phone signal again," Lucic told RTS and added that the signal was not interrupted for landline telephony, internet and TV.

He added that this interruption was deliberately caused by another mobile operator, Vala, which, clearly supported by representatives of the provisional Pristina institutions, placed a tower on the Leposavic municipality building and interrupted the Telekom signal.

"Unfortunately, that municipal president (Lulzim Hetemi) continued to create incidents, by not letting us into the municipal building, saying that he can only remove it and that he will not let us fix the problem. We filed a criminal complaint against him, because he grossly abused his official position, destroyed private property and deliberately cut off the signal to people, solely because they are Serbs, and he cut off our signal and took equipment, solely because we are a Serbian company," Lucic said.

Lucic stressed that all embassies and representatives of the international community have been informed about this incident.

"I hope that they will put pressure on the Pristina administration, in the same way that they were filing criminal charges and brining in Serbs from the north, saying that was done because of some violent behavior - this kind of violent behavior that originates from a man they put in charge of the municipality, they should sanction and detain that man," said the general director of Telekom Srbija.

The most important thing, said Lucic, is that Telekom Serbija will connect base stations via an alternative route and that people will receive the signal today.

"But we will not allow this incident to just be swept aside, instead we will do our best to make sure the man who destroyed our property, who prevented people from having reception for two days, answers for it," stressed Lucic.
