Brnabic after her meeting with Koopman: The goal is to open Cluster 3 by the end of July

Serbian National Assembly President Ana Brnabic met today in Brussels with EU's Director-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations at the Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighborhood Gert Jan Koopman.

Brnabic said after the meeting that the goal is to open Cluster 3, in EU membership negotiations, by the end of July.

She also stated that Koopman will visit Belgrade again on June 12 and that they will meet then as well.

"It's a good dynamic of mutual visits and talks, because it's the best way to monitor progress in our reform activities, which should finally lead to the opening of Cluster 3. We hope and our desire and ambition is to do that by the end of July, if not, then September or October. But what we're aiming for, our target date is the end of July and we're working on it," said Brnabic.

Brnabic expressed her gratitude to Koopman for "really working hard and being committed to the EU accession process and personally monitoring every reform and every task that Serbia has been given to do and complete."

"He has a lot of understanding for all the things that are happening in Serbia at the moment, for all the efforts by President Aleksandar Vucic to implement reforms, that this is happening at a satisfactory pace and that Serbia again has a positive signal from the European Union, which will give us additional motivation to work on the opening of other clusters. The next one we are working on is definitely Cluster 2," she stated.

Brnabic added that, regardless of the technical details in Serbia's negotiations with the EU regarding membership, communication has recently intensified and there is better understanding, "of course along with many problems."

"But it is generally speaking good for our European path," said Brnabic.
