Marko Djuric: Our foreign policy is based on national interests and long-term development vision

Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric addressed the 55th regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), stating that Serbia's foreign policy is formulated in line with the country's fundamental national interests and long-term vision of development.
At the meeting held in Antigua and Barbuda, Djuric that Serbia is trying to ensure stability and predictability in its own environment. At the same time Serbia is consistently committed to protect the principle of freedom of decision-making and independent formulation of its own policies.
"Our foreign policy is based on rational assessments and is aligned with the needs of our citizens, aimed at protecting sovereignty and territorial integrity as the pillars of our national identity. I thank everyone who respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia," Djuric said.
He added that Serbia is open to economic partnerships, because it believes that prosperity leads to peace and stability.
"As a permanent observer in the OAS, Serbia firmly believes in the importance of multilateralism and the contribution that this organization makes to stability, development and democracy throughout the American continent. Our cooperation with the General Secretariat has already materialized through joint projects in education, tourism and digital transformation, and there is both the will and space for deepening a mutually beneficial partnership," stated Djuric.
According to him, over the last years we have witnessed a dynamic development of bilateral cooperation with OAS member countries on the political, economic and cultural level, while Serbia is open to further strengthen the links with the American region through trade, investments in infrastructure and energy, educational programs and cooperation regarding sustainable development.
"At a time when the world is going through a fundamental transformation, when global challenges such as climate change or digital security are becoming part of our agendas, we believe that cooperation between states is more necessary than ever. OAS has an important role in shaping that cooperation in the Western Hemisphere, and Serbia, as a European partner, is ready to be a bridge in strengthening cooperation between our regions," said Djuric.
The head of Serbian diplomacy recalled that Belgrade will host EXPO 2027 and that a recent preparatory meeting in Belgrade gathered representatives from as many as 154 countries.
EXPO, Djuric explained, will be an opportunity for individual promotion of the participating countries, but also for confirming the principles of international cooperation.
