The police in Belgrade are investigating how a fire started inside a well-known cafe in the central part of the Serbian capital. The incident happened just after midnight last night.

The initial results of the investigation indicate that a Molotov cocktail was thrown at the establishment, Telegraf.rs has learned.

The fire was quickly extinguished and luckily no one was injured.

According to eyewitnesses, a bottle containing a suspicious liquid was thrown by men who had previously broken the cafe's window.

They then fled the scene on a motorbike. A large-scale fire was prevented by the firefighters' quick reaction.

The authorities did not want to tell a Telegraf.rs reporter what happened inside the cafe.

The establishment is today open for business. Traces of fire are visible in one part of the premises.

The prosecutor's office in Belgrade has been informed about the case.

According to unofficial information, the police took video footage from nearby security cameras to determine what really happened.
