President Aleksandar Vucic spoke for Informer TV today about the current situation in Serbia and the blockades that are organized throughout the country.

"We will almost never touch them. You (protesters) are masochists, you're destroying yourself, your neighbors, and you don't even know why you're doing it. And those neighbors often think the same as you. Why do you do it? For a selfie? Every day of these blockades the support for them is declining. Why do you do it? However, we don't have a problem with that, but with the safety of the people. They throw dumpsters around, they could kill someone. That's why I pleaded with them, and every time they end up in front of a police station," said Vucic.

He specified that the protesters are go there demanding the release of those who got arrested, but reminded that "their actions and the endangering of the people" are not allowed.

"When I said that the revolution is over, it is over. They are using young children as cannon fodder. Fortunately, we are careful about that and will make sure that the police are using minimum force and that we don't put these people in an unpleasant situation. In three months I will have to defend them (from other people). Some lose their temper, that's why you saw the brutal attacks last night. It's like Hitler's era," the president said.

"Even those who supported them are starting to resent them, realizing they'd made a mistake," he added..

This is economically bad for the country, although it is politically good, Vucic continued.

"The interest of the country is for this situation to end as soon as possible. For people to live well, be able to work," he said.

"People need to know that when I plead with someone for something, I'm pleading for their sake, not as a sign of weakness or because we're desperate. It's an expression of strength, that's what wise politicians do. I'm pleading with them (protesters), not for my sake, but for theirs. They will only harm themselves, not us in the slightest," he said.

He also touched on the work of the police during the blockades.

"I give great credit to the police. Everywhere - in Belgrade, Nis, Novi Sad, all units that bravely and in a cool-headed manner participated in a thankless and difficult task. This is how they will work in the future as well. Those guys have to protect us all in 40 degree weather, while we are in the shade," he said.

"Serbia will be choosing, but it will always choose people who work and build things. I recommend that they (protesters) also become a part of the team that works, not that which destroys. That kind of gestures, and it's all to say - they want to be in power. What is the point of pushing dumpsters, what have you achieved with that," Vucic wondered, and added that he is proud of the fact that Serbia managed to build so much during this period.

The president also said that he is always thinking about elections.

"Not 5-6 hours go by that I don't think about elections. I am a 'zoon politikon'. But there is something more important right now. Serbia, and those who want to work will win," Vucic concluded.
