Police kill young man in Lipljan? Body found with handcuffs, all officers involved arrested!

Five police officers were detained yesterday over the death of 27-year-old Agon Zejnullahu from Lipljan in Kosovo and Metohija. The officers are suspected of negligent homicide.

According to the local media, Agon was found on Monday in a canal by the side of the road, with handcuffs on his hands.

His body has been sent for an autopsy, while it is suspected that he died after getting detained by the policemen who were on duty that evening.

According to the Kosovo police, immediately before he lost his life, Zejnullahu is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol and was attacking passers-by and vehicles in Haradin Bajrami Street in Lipljan.

The police received a report around 00:15 and responded immediately, and an ambulance was dispatched to the scene.

A police spokesman for the Pristina region, Agron Borovci, said that the doctors tried to help the young man, but unfortunately, despite their efforts, he died.

"Investigative units and the prosecutor for serious crimes immediately arrived at the scene. A criminal investigation has been launched, material evidence has been secured and witnesses are being questioned. The body was sent for an autopsy to the Institute of Forensic Medicine," said Borovci.

The municipality of Lipljan expressed its deep condolences to the family of Zejnullahu, while Mayor Imri Ahmeti said that the loss of a young life "shook not only his family but also the entire municipality." Agon's family said goodbye to him with the following message posted on social media:

"We belong to God and to Him we will return. It is with deep sadness that we inform family, friends and loved ones that today, at the age of 27, our beloved brother, our son: Agon Baskim Zejnullahu, passed away. We will inform you about the time of the funeral."

The investigation will determine what exactly happened and under what circumstances Agon Zejnullahu lost his life.
