The Basic Court of the provisional institutions in Pristina today sentenced the assistant director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Igor Popovic, to six months in prison and a 3,000 euro fine.

Popovic was also given a two-year ban on entering Kosovo and Metohija.

Popovic was not in the court for the sentencing, while the judge said that the official will be "expelled" from Kosovo and Metohija today.

As stated, the sentence was imposed based on a plea agreement related to Popovic allegedly committing the crime of "inciting discord and intolerance".

The Special Prosecutor's Office in Pristina announced on August 5 that it had filed an indictment against Popovic after he attended a commemoration on the anniversary of the murders and kidnappings of Serbs in the Orahovac region - the crimes perpetrated by the so-called KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army"), which he referred to as a terrorist organization.

Popovic was later arrested at the Brnjak administrative crossing.
