Minister Handanovic: US sanctions against Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) postponed once again

The US Treasury Department has for the sixth time postponed the full implementation of its sanctions against the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS), this time until September 26.
This was announced by the Serbian the Ministry of Mining and Energy.
"Even in difficult circumstances, NIS will continue to ensure a stable supply of oil and oil derivatives to the domestic market. The ultimate goal is to remove NIS from the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions list, a process that does not depend on Serbia. We hope that the continuation of high-level talks between the US and Russia will contribute to making progress regarding the entire package of US sanctions against Russian companies, as well as an agreement that could have a positive effect on the removal of uncertainty regarding the Petroleum Industry of Serbia and the removal of the company from the list of sanctions," said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.
She pointed out that by postponing the sanctions thus far, Serbia managed to preserve energy security.
"Despite the complex circumstances that we cannot influence, refineries have had enough crude oil and continue to work, and we are grateful to the US administration for their understanding so far. The situation remains complex and the state continues to make maximum efforts and to conduct an active dialogue with both the US and the Russian side," stressed Djedovic Handanovic.
She also reminded that Serbia did not contribute in any way to the imposing of sanctions against NIS and that they are the result of global politics.
"We will continue to fight using all diplomatic means to ensure the stability of supply for our citizens and the economy," said the minister.
