Surveillance cameras recorded the last moments of a girl (16) who died in a horrific accident in Zemun on Thursday, when she was hit by a city bus driven by M.T. (61), who previously ran a red light.

The video shows how the girl first stands at a pedestrian crissing, and then starts running across it.

Just a second later, the bus mowed her down.

The driver then lost control of the vehicle, hit three parked vehicles and then a house.

In this horrific accident, a pregnant woman was injured and was transported to the hospital. Also, among the injured is a 74-year-old woman, and a mother with a child (6) who transported to the Children's Hospital in Tirsova Street.

Initial reports on Thursday incorrectly cited eyewitnesses who stated that the girl was killed on the sidewalk which the bus had swerved onto, reportedly in order to avoid a woman who was jaywalking.

MUP issues statement

Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) in Belgrad have arrested bus driver M.T. (61) on suspicion that he committed a serious crime against the safety of public traffic, the MUP announced.

The suspect hit a pedestrian, born in 2009, while driving a bus in Zemun (a Belgrade municipality), after which he crossed into the opposite lane where he hit parked vehicles, and then a residential building, when the bus stopped.

The 16-year-old pedestrian died instantly, while two people in the vehicles got injured, as well as one who was on the bus.

The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade ordered the suspect to be detained for up to 48 hours after which he will be taken before the prosecutor along with a criminal complaint.
