Emperor Naruhito receives President Vucic, who asks him to consider visiting Serbia

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic was today received by Japanese Emperor Naruhito in the Imperial Palace it Tokyo.

"An exceptional honor and a unique ceremony of arrival and reception at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Honored that I could learn a lot from the Japanese Emperor Naruhito and proud that I had the opportunity to represent Serbia in such a place," Vucic stated in a post on the Instagram account "buducnostsrbijeav".

The president of Serbia added said he asked Emperor Naruhito to consider the possibility of visiting our country, especially bearing in mind the still vivid memories of then Prince Akihito's visit to Belgrade in 1976.

Vucic stressed that this meeting opens a new page in bilateral relations and sends a clear message that Serbia and Japan look to the future together.

"I had the honor of meeting His Majesty the Emperor of Japan Naruhito in Tokyo. This meeting is a confirmation of the deep mutual respect and friendship that connects our two countries," Vucic said on Instagram.

He added that it is a great privilege for Serbia to have the opportunity to strengthen ties with one of the most developed and respected nations in the world, and especially that this is done through such a significant meeting at the highest level.

This is the first official meeting between President Vucic and Emperor Naruhito, and Vucic is set to also have a meeting Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

The president of Serbia has been on a working visit to Japan since September 14, where he yesterday in Osaka attended the official ceremony of the presentation of the National Day of Serbia at EXPO 2025.

Vucic will end his visit to Japan tomorrow, September 17.
