AI, blockchain and energy: Serbia and Japan embarking on joint projects

A memorandum, which was signed today in Tokyo by Serbian Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Bela Balint, and Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan Toshiko Abe, will contribute to the cooperation of the two countries in the field of artificial intelligence, physics and mathematics, including blockchain and information and communication technologies, biology and biotechnology, environment and energy, and higher education.

"The goal of this memorandum is to encourage scientific research and technological innovation exchange and cooperation between Serbia and Japan, as well as development of cooperation between interested organizations from the two countries, especially between scientific and research organizations, academic communities and innovation support organizations," announced the Serbian Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation.

The cooperation will be implemented through joint bilateral projects, which allow researchers short-term visits in order to improve mutual understanding and cooperation, as well by considering organizing joint events in order to exchange knowledge, and other joint activities.

The memorandum was signed in the presence of President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, and Japanese Ambassador to Serbia Akira Imamura.

On this occasion, a joint statement was signed regarding an agreement in principle between Serbia and Japan to promote and protect investments, which was signed by Serbian Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Jagoda Lazarevic and Ambassador Imamura.

At the same time, Director of the Serbian Office for IT and e-Government Mihailo Jovanovic and the Technical Director of NTT DATA Bojan Mrazovec signed a memorandum of understanding regarding cooperation in the field of advanced ICT technologies in Serbia.
