Drecun: I believe that Rubio carefully listened to Vucic, meeting was opportunity to kickstart cooperation

Chairman of the Serbian National Assembly Committee on Defense and Internal Affairs Milovan Drecun said that he believes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio heard what Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had to day during their meeting in New York this week, and added that the meeting opens up opportunities for new cooperation.
"Certainly, Rubio must have listened very carefully to President Vucic. There is obviously a lot of appreciation from the Trump administration. A space is opening up so that we can build some common policies and common opportunities that we should take advantage of," Drecun told Tanjug.
He added that Rubio suggested a meeting with President Vucic because he wanted to talk to him about a specific topic.
"He wanted to talk about something specific, but we don't know what that topic was. I'm not going to be guessing," Drecun said.
He stressed Vucic is discussing various topics with world officials in New York that are very important for the citizens of Serbia - from tariffs and sanctions, through Kosovo and Metohija, to the strengthening of cooperation in the field of defense and security.
Drecun added that the new commander of the Ohio National Guard, Matthew Woodruff, was present at the recent military parade in Belgrade where he was saluting members of the Serbian Army.
"He did not salute the weapons we bought from the Chinese and the Russians, but those we produce ourselves. I watched his reaction very carefully, I could see the respect," said Drecun.
He pointed out that bilateral military relations between Serbia and the US are extremely important to the Americans.
"It is important (to the US) that we remain in that western orbit when it comes to our strategic foreign policy commitment", Drecun said.
