The Serbian embassy reopened in the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, and on that occasion a reception was organized and attended by diplomats, representatives of state institutions and others.

Serbian Ambassador to Ukraine Andon Sapundzi said that the opening of the embassy symbolizes "Serbia's return to Kiev" and the renewal of active cooperation between the two countries, Ukrainian agency Interfax is reporting.

"Our workspace is not completely finished yet, but I wanted to share this joy with you now. Serbia is back," Sapundzi pointed out.

He stated that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, more than 100,000 Ukrainians moved to Serbia, where they started their own companies and their children started studying in the Serbian language.

According to Interfax Serbia provides humanitarian aid to Ukraine, among other things, participates in projects to build underground kindergartens near the front line, supplies equipment for energy infrastructure and organizes educational programs for children.

Serbia, at the time part of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SRJ), and Ukraine established diplomatic relations on April 15, 1994, and the Serbian embassy in Kiev opened the following year.

During 2022 its activities were temporarily suspended due to the security situation.
