PM Macut: Serb List victory is important for Serbs Kosovo and Metohija and Community of Serb Municipalities
Prime Minister Djuro Macut assessed today that the victory of the Serb List in their areas is very important for the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija because it protects their identity and existence, but also creates space to fulfill the conditions that were accepted and signed more than 10 years ago, such as the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities (ZSO).
In an interview with Tanjug, the prime minister pointed out that Belgrade insists on completing the process of defining the Community of Serb Municipalities, while the Serb List victory is a good sign that this process can be completed.
When asked whether Serbia is planning new diplomatic activities related to preserving the country's territorial integrity, i.e. getting those countries that recognized the unilaterally declared independence of so-called Kosovo to revoke those recognitions - bearing in mind that recently the Bahamas recognized that declaration - Macut said that there are turbulent events at the global level, but that this cannot slow down Serbia conducting its policy within its capabilities and the international situation.
"Our strategy is constantly present and it is to maintain our position regarding the integrity of our country. Our southern province is an integral part of the Republic of Serbia according to the Constitution, but also according to the emotions of our people and everything that represents the history of Serbia," Macut said, and added:
"You asked about derecognition. It is each country's discretion to create its own policy, just as other countries create their own policy to recognize. We certainly want to point out the objective circumstances to our friends and in general to the countries with which we cooperate, which is why we insist on derecognition or termination of conditional diplomatic relations with a country or territory (such as Kosovo) that is not internationally recognized at the UN."
The prime minister reiterated that Kosovo is our territory and added that contemporary geopolitics, especially in Europe, does not refer to border changes and reminded that Serbia also supports other countries' integrity, within their internationally recognized borders.
"Therefore, we think the same applies when it comes to Serbia, so we will continue our diplomatic activities in the direction of informing (others) about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and our desire is that the countries who still follow the old course change it, and understand our reality," Macut concluded.
