Minister of Defense of Serbia Bratislav Gasic tours Ground Safety Zone (GSZ)
On January 8 - the second day of Orthodox Christmas - Minister of Defense of Serbia Bratislav Gasic visited members of the Serbian Army (VS) stationed in the Ground Safety Zone (GSZ).
The GSZ is a strip of land between central Serbia and Kosovo and Metohija, designated under the 1999 ceasefire agreement.
Gasic first spoke with members of the Army at Base Madjere, to ended his visit to the Ground Safety Zone at Base Devojacka Cuka. During the tour, base commanders informed Minister Gasic about the assigned tasks and the organization of life and work there.
The minister of defense pointed out that today's visit to Serbian Army soldiers serving in the area, who were on duty yesterday, during a great Christian holiday - was an opportunity to show respect toward them because of the commitment and responsibility with which they perform their duties.
"I am extremely glad to spend this day at Madjere and Devojacka Cuka bases with the members of the Serbian Army who, even during holidays, serve their fatherland and their people. Their service, discipline and responsibility are the foundation of our country's security and confirmation that Serbia has an Army that it can always rely on," said the minister of defense.
Gasic stressed that members of the Serbian Army are guided by an unshakable faith in their mission, and that he is convinced that going forward, as before, they will carry out all tasks responsibly and professionally, with the aim of preserving peace.
"We will continue to invest in improving the living standard of members of the Serbian Army, as well as the military's armaments and equipment. As part of numerous infrastructure works that have been carried out during the previous year, we also reconstructed some of the bases in the Ground Safety Zone in order to provide our soldiers with the best conditions for life and work, and we will continue to do this in 2026," said Minister Gasic, while wishing our soldiers a happy New Year, and Orthodox Christmas - the latter with the the traditional greeting, "Peace from God, Christ is Born".
Officials taking part in Thursday's tour included VS Ground Army Commander General-Major Zoran Naskovic, Chief of Operations General-Major Gordan Pavlovic, Commander of the 4th Army Brigade General Grujica Vukovic, and Chief of the Cabinet of the Minister of Defense Colonel Nikola Matovic.
