Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut said on Thursday evening, at a reception organized for the delegations and dignitaries who attended a gathering marking January 9, the Day of the Serb Republic (RS, Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina) - that Serbia will continue to improve relations with the RS in several areas and added that he hopes that the years ahead will show the importance of the ties between Serbia and the RS.

"I would like to underline our special and parallel relations, and that we will definitely strive to improve those relations. We invite the RS and the institutions of the RS to respond to us and jointly build our relations, which are most prominent in the field of cultural cooperation, but certainly also when it comes to infrastructural projects. I would say that new fields are opening up for us in science, healthcare, but also in education, which will certainly be our main focus. So I think that the years ahead will certainly be characterized by significant ties, that we already have and will continue to develop," Macut said.

He stressed that this is also a special moment for him personally.

"Given that my origins are in these parts, in the proud town of Drvar, which unfortunately is not part of the RS, but this certainly shows that the Serbs have always been and remain present in this entire area and that they are present to this day. I am extremely pleased that for the first time as the prime minister of the Republic of Serbia, I am heading a high level delegation that includes cabinet ministers who are present here and represent a symbol of permanent ties, and something that characterizes relations between Serbia and the RS," said Macut.

Macut congratulated RS Day to all citizens.

"May you spend it happy and celebrating the results that you have achieved and I hope that we will also celebrate these kinds of events together in the coming years. Cheers and all the best," Macut said.

The reception was organized at the RS Government headquarters in Banja Luka.

The guests were welcomed by President of the RS National Assembly Nenad Stevandic and RS Prime Minister Savo Minic.

Previously, a formal gathering was held and attended by the leadership of the RS, Prime Minister Macut, Serbian government ministers, as well as the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Porfirije.
