European Parliament delegation to visit Serbian National Assembly on Friday

A delegation of European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) will visit the Serbian National Assembly on Friday, January 23, during which they will meet with Assembly Vice President and Chair of the Committee on EU Integration Elvira Kovac.

According to the Assembly's website, after their meeting with Elvira Kovac, the EP delegation will meet with representatives of opposition parliamentary groups, and then with the members of the ruling coalition.

National Assembly President Ana Brnabic said earlier that the MEPs who will come to Belgrade are showing disrespect towards Serbia and pointed out that they are not coming to find some new facts, because they have already adopted a resolution against Serbia.

Brnabic also said that had they been interested in the facts, they would have come before (adopting the resolution), while this is preparation for some new resolution against Serbia, because those written by Tonino Picula are always against Serbia.

AFET previously announced that a delegation would visit Belgrade to discuss Serbia's progress in the EU accession process and additional reforms needed to improve that process.

The delegation will be led by Marta Temido (S&D) from Portugal, and as stated, will meet with representatives of the government and parliament in Serbia.

It was additionally said that MEPs will raise the issues highlighted in the resolution of the European Parliament of May 7, 2025 on the Commission's reports on Serbia for 2023 and 2024 and the resolution of the European Parliament of October 22, 2025, as well as regarding polarization in Serbia - while a press conference is planned after the meetings.

Besides Temido, the delegation will include EPP representatives Rasa Jukneviciene (Lithuania), Reinhold Lopatka (Austria), head of the European Parliament delegation for relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Pristina Davor Ivo Stir (Croatia), Tonino Picula, (rapporteur of the European Parliament for Serbia from Croatia), Romanian Serban-Dimitrie Sturdzaa, Austrian Helmut Brandstatter, Slovenian Vladimir Prebilic, and German Petr Bystron.
