Croatian minister speaks about construction of gas interconnection with Serbia!
Croatia plans to build a gas interconnection with Serbia that would provide access to the LNG terminal on the island of Krk and further strengthen the region's energy security, Croatian Economy Minister Ante Susnjar said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the conference "Energy 2026" organized by Jutarnji List, Susnjar added that the project involves the construction of about 15 kilometers of gas pipelines to serve the initial capacity.
According to the Croatian minister, Serbia has shown interest in this interconnection project.
Croatia already plays a significant regional role thanks to the LNG terminal located on Krk, which has contributed to reducing the dependence of that country and its neighbors on Russian energy sources, said Susnjar.
According to him, connecting with Serbia is a logical continuation of the policy of strengthening energy resilience of South-Eastern Europe, Dnevno.hr is reporting.
Croatia's ambition to become a regional energy hub was supported by the US ambassador to that country, Nicole McGraw.
McGraw noted that the LNG terminal on Krk plays a key geopolitical and security role and called for stronger cooperation between Croatian and US energy companies.
