Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic stated in Dubai, where she is participating in the World Governments Summit 2026, that negotiations are ongoing between Hungary's MOL and the state oil company of the United Arab Emirates ADNOC with Gazprom Neft about taking over the Russian share in NIS (Petroleum Industry of Serbia) and added that our country is also involved in the talks.

The minister announced that she will tomorrow in Abu Dhabi have a meeting with UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, and will discuss NIS and cooperation in the energy sector.

"The talks between MOL and ADNOC are ongoing, and we are of course present in those talks and very interested, but for us the main goal is for an agreement to be reached, primarily on the purchase and sale (between MOL and Gazprom Neft) and for the US OFAC to approve it, and then to have an even stronger partner in our country such as ADNOC in the oil sector and to continue our successful cooperation with the United Arab Emirates in the field of energy," said Djedovic Handanovic.

She added that ADNOC is an extremely important company in the global oil production and distribution and a member of OPEC.

According to the minister, it is only a plus for us that such a company should have part owneship in NIS.

"Tomorrow I will travel to Abu Dhabi and talk with their Minister Al Jaber, who is the chairman of the board of directors of ADNOC. And of course we will raise important topics, above all cooperation between Serbia and the UAE in our oil sector, but also in the matter of NIS, with great gratitude first of all to ADNOC and the statesmen in this country, the ministers, above all to Minister Al Jaber, who has so far provided support to Serbia, but also to NIS (that is under US sanctions) to leave this difficult period behind, and above all to enable NIS to get a license (to operate)," the minister said.

Djedovic Handanovic specified that they (ADNOC) are in talks with the Hungarian company MOL, but also Gazprom Neft, which is still the majority owner of NIS.

"So I will certainly have more information tomorrow, but what I can tell you is that we are working to secure the support of ADNOC and the support of the United Arab Emirates. As I said, we have extremely good political and economic relations with this country. We feel very welcome, and those foundations have been built over many years, above all by President Vucic, the UAE state leadership, and based on those foundations we turned to them for help when it comes to Petroleum Industry of Serbia," said the minister.
