A dramatic situation has been unfolding in Vracar, central Belgrade, since early this morning, when an unknown person threw an explosive device at a well-known wine shop, Telegraf.rs has learned.

Luckily, the device did not explode, and thus great tragedy has been avoided.

Telegraf reporter: Everything is blocked off

Our reporter who is on the scene says that the police have set up an impenetrable cordon. A yellow strip stretches along the entire street, while access to the shop itself is strictly prohibited. Residents from the surrounding buildings are shocked, and the police are moving them away from the entrance to the wine shop until the investigation is over.

Bomb fails to explode, attacker on the run

According to unofficial information obtained by Telegraf.rs, the attacker activated the device and threw it in the direction of the shop, but for technical reasons it did not detonate.

The police bomb squad carefully approached the device in order to deactivate it.

An intensive search is underway for the person who threw it, and police believe security cameras captured the moment of the attack.

Eyewitnesses speak

"There was only a thump, as if something had fallen, but there was no explosion. Only later did we see the police and realize that a bomb was on our doorstep," one of the residents told our portal.
