Aleksandar Vulin: "My ancestors were on right side of history, and where were yours, Mr. Gahler?"
"It's quite understandable that German MEP from the CDU Michael Gahler is bothered by the fact I laid a wreath on the grave of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin," Aleksandar Vulin has said.
"(Stalin was) one of the leaders of the anti-fascist coalition and the most important statesman of the 20th century, he has never been popular among German politicians. Stalin did not fight against the Nazis, but against the German state which caused two world wars in one century. That is why Gahler is trying to equate Hitler and Stalin, to minimize and justify German crimes," he added.
"Seven million Germans and their allies from all EU member states fought against the Red Army on the Eastern front, but not a single Serb did, that's why I laid a wreath on the grave of the victor over the Third Reich and an ally of all free people. Mr. Gahler is not ashamed of the crimes committed by his people, he is ashamed of their defeat," stated Vulin, and concluded:
"My ancestors were on the right side of history, and Mr. Gahler - where were yours?"
Aleksandar Vulin in this way reacted to Gahler telling Deutsche Welle that Belgrade "must decide where it wants to belong - either in the EU, or you will be laying wreaths on Stalin's grave, like Mr. Vulin".
