President Vucic and Italian Defense Minister Crosetto discuss global security, bilateral cooperation

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke today in Belgrade with Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto about strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of defense, the situation in the Middle East and current crisis hotspots, as well as the role of Serbia and Italy in the new international circumstances.

Vucic said his meeting with Crosetto was excellent, adding that they discussed the main aspects of the increasingly complex global security environment.

"We paid special attention to current crisis hotspots and consequences on the stability of Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as broader international order. I reiterated that modern security threats are unpredictable, with a high risk of conflict spillover, which is best seen in the current conflict throughout the Middle East," Vucic said in a post on Instagram.

He expressed concern about the further development of the situation in the Middle East, as well as in the Western Balkans, where new military alliances have been formed recently that do not contribute to preserving stability and general security and unnecessarily raise tensions.

"I pointed out that any destabilization of both regions has direct consequences on European security, energy stability and global trade. I repeated that dialogue is the only way to a permanent solution and that it is necessary to make additional efforts to calm tensions," said Vucic.

He added that they also discussed the need for better coordination and exchange of information between partners in order to mitigate the consequences of regional conflicts.

Vucic stressed that Serbia remains committed to the policy of peace and military neutrality, but also to open cooperation with partners such as Italy.

"I am convinced that through more intensive political and defense dialogue, we will further strengthen our relations and jointly contribute to the stability of the region in a time of great global challenges," President Vucic concluded.
