Driver who mowed down woman and her children on sidewalk in Sjenica, killing 2, has been arrested

26-year-old A.K. from Sjenica has been arrested on suspicion that he caused a gruesome traffic accident in that town last night at around 9 pm, that resulted in the death of E.K. (44) and her 12-year-old daughter L.K., while the woman's 9-year-old son suffered life-threatening injuries, Telegraf.rs has learned.

The accident occurred when the driver who was speeding lost control of his vehicle, driving onto the sidewalk to first hit the woman and the two children, and stop only after hitting a concrete pole and then a tree.

Condition of the boy

E.K. was a policewoman in Sjenica, and at the time of the accident she was off duty. The doctors pronounced her and her daughter dead at the scene, while the seriously injured boy was urgently transported to the hospital in Uzice, where the doctors are fighting to save his life.

Investigation

The investigation of the scene was conducted by a prosecutor from the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Novi Pazar. The suspect will spend up to 48-hours in police detention, and will next be brought to the prosecution for questioning.
