Fuel shortages start in Montenegro! Police at gas stations, citizens making stockpiles
According to RTCG, residents of Berane in Montenegro are facing fuel shortages. One gas station has not had any fuel since yesterday, while there are big crowds at the remaining two stations in the town. Because of this situation, the police have been deployed to regulate traffic in order to avoid traffic jams and incidents.
According to available information, the gas station that is currently out of stock is expecting new quantities tomorrow, but the exact delivery date has not yet been confirmed.
An increased number of vehicles started to arrive at the gas stations last night, after the Association of Oil Companies of Montenegro (UNKCG) warned about disruptions and possible shortages, RTCG is reporting.
This association also said that there is a serious risk of interruption of fuel supply to Montenegro, given that supplier prices, especially of eurodiesel, are 30 percent higher than the current prices.
UNKCG has called on the competent institutions to urgently consider temporary deregulation of the existing model of price formation for oil derivatives. As one of the measures, a possible reduction of excise taxes was mentioned, which would enable for faster reaction to sudden market changes, ensure regular supply and protect the market from the impact of inflation.
On the other hand, Minister of Energy Admir Sahmanovic told TVCG that there will be no shortage of fuel. He stressed that the government is monitoring the situation and that the process of forming reserves, which is being carried out, will enable for safe supply of the market.
When it comes to other Montenegrin towns, no major crowds at gas stations have so far been recorded in Igalo, Niksic, Tivat and Ulcinj.
The same is true of Pljevlja, which has three gas stations, but it has been reported that citizens are stocking up on fuel. The situation is similar in Bijelo Polje, where there is enough fuel at gas stations and where new deliveries were made during today; although there are no major crowds, it is noticeable that citizens are buying more fuel than usual.
The public is also following reports about the current situation at gas stations in Podgorica.
