"State to continue with measures to protect citizens": Djedovic Handanovic speaks after meeting on fuel prices

A meeting was held on Friday at the Ministry of Mining and Energy to set the average wholesale prices of oil derivatives. Eurodiesel will cost 208 dinars and gasoline 186 dinars per liter over the next seven days.

Compared to this week, the price of Eurodiesel is higher by five dinars, and of gasoline by two dinars.

"The realistic price of diesel is over 226 dinars, gasoline somewhere around 189 dinars, when we look at quotations and prices on the stock exchanges. This is the result of the increase in oil prices on the world market due to the conflict in the Middle East," said Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

She stressed that today oil is still around or above 100 dollars per barrel, which is as much as 40 percent more than just a month ago.

"The state will continue to take measures to protect citizens and the economy, first of all from price surges, but also from shortages. We have already reduced excise taxes by 20 percent, which will certainly provide additional relief," said the minister.

Djedovic Handanovic added that the state monitors the situation, which is unpredictable, from hour to hour.

"We are discussing all possible measures, but above all we want to hear what the biggest current challenges are when it comes to prices and when it comes to the supply from all the oil companies present on the market, which of course includes Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS), but also other companies," she said.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Mining and Energy and the Ministry of Internal and Foreign Trade.
