Brnabic: Parliamentary cooperation with Czech Republic extremely good, Tomio Okamura is great friend of Serbia
President of the Serbian National Assembly Ana Brnabic said today, after a meeting with President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic Tomio Okamura, that parliamentary cooperation between Serbia and the Czech Republic is extremely good and that it mirrors the close and friendly relations between the two countries, and thanked Okamura for his principled positions regarding the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, and the NATO aggression against our country.
Brnabic stressed that political dialogue between Serbia and the Czech Republic is intense and is taking place at all levels.
"It's our task and honor to further improve and deepen this cooperation at the parliamentary level. There is a Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Czech Republic in the Serbian Assembly, which gathers 30 deputies. It is a great sign of friendship," Brnabic stated after the meeting.
She expressed her gratitude to Okamura as one of the few EU politicians who spoke publicly, directly and openly about the fact that "NATO intervention" (in 1999) was actually NATO aggression against Serbia, and added that Okamura was among the first, along with President Milos Zeman, to apologize to the Serbian people because of that aggression.
"To us, it is an incredible gesture of friendship and respect, and we will never forget it," emphasized Brnabic.
She added that Tomio Okamura also spoke openly about the fact that for him, the question of recognizing the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo was a question of respecting or disrespecting international law.
Brnabic noted that Okamura often faced huge consequences for saying that for him, the territorial integrity of Serbia is sacred and that he considers Kosovo a part of Serbia.
"On behalf of the vast majority of citizens, I want to thank him for that stance and say once again that Serbia, our people and the vast majority of Serbian citizens will never forget this," said Brnabic.
She expressed her satisfaction that she had the opportunity to host Okamura, an important partner and great friend of Serbia.
"Thank you once again for agreeing to visit the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and Serbia in such a short period of time after my invitation," said Brnabic.
She recalled that she had a very good meeting with Okamura on the sidelines of the conference of presidents of parliaments of Southeast Europe, which was held in Budapest in February.
"That's when we met for the first time, realized that we fully share our opinions on all the most important issues and hold identical views. I extended the invitation and Mr. Okamura is here in Serbia today," said Brnabic.
