Office for KiM: Attack on Serb man indicates deteriorating security situation in Kosovo and Metohija
The Office for Kosovo and Metohija (KiM) has condemned the attack on Miroslav Gudzic that happened today in Donja Gusterica, when another person, a woman employed in a local clinic also got injured. The Office stressed this is another ethnically motivated incident that is an indicator of the worsening security situation in Serb areas and the rise of inter-ethnic tensions in AP KiM (Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija).
"The latest ethnically motivated incident comes after a series of anti-Serb acts carried out by the regime in Pristina, as well as attacks on Serbs that remain unexplained or inadequately sanctioned, which emboldens perpetrators who target Serbs," the Office said in a statement.
It added that the attack on Miroslav Gudzic took place today in Donja Gusterica, when, according to his own testimony, he was beaten up by a group of ethnic Albanians in the healthcare outpost area in this Serb settlement.
A woman, an employee of the health facility who tried to help Gudzic, was also injured.
The Office states that the victims were provided with medical assistance at the Clinical Hospital Center in Gracanica (a Serb enclave in Kosovo and Metohija), and that Gudzic has been kept for observation, given that he sustained injuries to his head.
"Our representatives in the field immediately got in touch with his family, in order to provide them with support and discuss with them, and the management of the healthcare facility, the degree of the injuries," the Office for Kosovo and Metohija said.
Earlier on Monday, after the incident, Gudzic said that he did not know who attacked him, or why, that he did not provoke anyone, but stressed that the only motive for the attack could have been the fact he is a Serb, and that he was driving a car with license plates issued in the city of Nis (in central Serbia).
Gudzic claims that he was previpusly receiving threats all the time, including curses mentioning his "Serb mother".
The director of the Pristina Clinical and Hospital Center based in Gracanica, Bratislav Lazic, confirmed that two people were hospitalized today shortly after 12 noon, and pointed out that their condition was stable, but that more would be known after all examinations and tests have been completed.
