The Council for Coordination of Activities and Measures for GDP Growth has been held in Belgrade, when economic results in the first quarter of this year were discussed, and the session was chaired by Prime Minister of Serbia Djuro Macut.

It was pointed out at the meeting that GDP growth in the first quarter of this year was 3.0 percent and that in terms of real GDP growth in this period, Serbia is among the best performing countries in Europe.

Growth was recorded in industrial production, processing industry, tourism, retail, as well as in external trade, while there was decline in the construction industry, the Government of Serbia announced.

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic said she expects that the results in the next quarter will be much more positive, especially when it comes to traffic infrastructure.

The meeting also heard that inflation in Serbia in the first quarter of this year was close to the European level, where it amounted to 3.1 percent, while in terms of public debt, Serbia is the lower part of the list.

Members of the Council analyzed the situation in those economic areas that directly affect GDP growth, as well as the results of visits to companies that contribute the most to GDP, both by Prime Minister Macut and the ministers.

The prime minister announced that these visits would continue, since the state aims to be in constant communication with the companies and provide support.

The session of the Council was attended by Deputy PM and Minister of Economy Adrijana Mesarovic, ministers Aleksandra Sofronijevic, Jagoda Lazarevic, Sara Pavkov, Dubravka Djedovic, and representatives of other ministries and competent institutions.
