Ana Brnabic: Sonic cannon affair had three goals, one of them was to increase pressure on Serbia from abroad

President of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic says that the case regarding the alleged use of a sonic cannon against anti-government protesters ("blockaders") last year was planned at least a month and a half before the rally held in Belgrade's Slavija Square on March 15, and that it had three goals - "further dehumanization of the authorities in Serbia, provoking civil conflict, and increasing foreign pressure on Serbia as much as possible."

Brnabic told a press conference held on Sunday at the House of the National Assembly that the first goal was a continued brutal dehumanization of President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, i.e. to present the president, in addition to all the lies about him and his family up to that moment, as a monster, someone who represents the ultimate evil, someone who is a killer and someone who is ready to shoot his own people in the back.

"For that reason, again in line with those very good preparations, within the first 24 hours of that lie, that a sonic cannon was used, in that communication strategy, the term 'sonic cannon' effectively disappeared completely. The only thing that remained and the only thing that was communicated to the citizens of Serbia, the region, and the world was that Aleksandar Vucic is a monster who shot his own people in the back," Brnabic stressed.

According to her, the second goal was to introduce more divisions into Serbian society, further inspire incredible hatred and cause maximum intolerance towards all those who do not agree with the "blockaders" on any issue, especially on the subject of the alleged use of a sonic cannon.

With that, she added, they wanted all those people to be characterized as inhumane, without empathy, without a sense of solidarity, without compassion.

"They were supposed to be painted as supporters of a killer and a monster who would also, in line with that, be ready to shoot the 'blockaders', i.e. all those who disagree with them," said Brnabic.

The idea was to create an atmosphere in society in which every, even the smallest incident, at any time would immediately cause widespread civil conflicts and civil war, she said.

The third goal, according to Brnabic, was EU's response and increased pressure on Serbia from abroad.

"They defined it as a 'massive response from Brussels'. What does that mean? The third goal was to intensify foreign pressure on Serbia as much as possible, to label President Aleksandar Vucic, and then the entire government in Serbia as a criminal regime, and to punish Serbia ultimatum-style, to eventually demand sanctions against Serbia, to isolate the country and thus directly provide as much support from as possible from abroad to the blockaders," said Brnabic.
