Prime Minister of Serbia Djuro Macut today received UN Undersecretary for Peacekeeping Missions Jean-Pierre Lacroix, and told him that Serbia appreciates the role played by UNMIK, the UN mission in Kosovo and Metohija, when it comes to the protection of the non-Albanians in the southern Serbian province - but that there is still a lot of room for the mission to be more active in that respect.

Macut expressed gratitude for that and pointed out that Serbia is committed to participating in peacekeeping missions around the world, and that it continues what Yugoslavia established in 1967 with the first deployment in Sinai.

Lacroix confirmed that the UN provides full and continuous support to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and agreed with Prime Minister Macut that constructive dialogue is the only way towards sustainable stability.

He expressed his sincere condolences to the prime minister of Serbia regarding the death of a member of the Serbian Army, Staff Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic, who died while serving in the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon on June 4.

Lacroix is in charge of strategic management through supervision and coordination of the activities of numerous UN missions around the world, including UNMIK.
