The Batut Institute of Public Health of Serbia has issued a heatwave warning that will be in effect over the next 10 days.

The most dangerous weather phenomena are expected in some districts between June 26 and 30, with very high daily temperatures - from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.

Sensitive groups such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, the chronically ill and people with damaged skin are at the greatest risk.

The recommendations coming from the World Health Organization say that a heatwave means at least three consecutive days when the maximum daily air temperature is above the defined critical value.

Over the next 10 days in Serbia, there will be conditions for a heatwave in Severnobacki Okrug (North Backa Districts) from June 26 to July 1, from June 27 to July 1 in Srednjebanatski, Zapadnobacki, and Macvanski Okrug (Mid-Banat, West Backa, Macva Districts), while in Juznobanatski Okrug (South Banat Distric) up until July 2.

In the City of Belgrade, Severnobanatski and Juznobacki Okrug (North Banat and South Backa Districts) these conditions will be present from June 28 to July 1, and in Branicevski, Podunavski and Rasinski Okrug (Branicevo, Podunavlje, Rasina Districts) from June 29 to July 1, as well as potentially in Pomoravski Okrug (Pomoravlje District) from June 29 to July 2.

According to the forecast maximum daily temperatures will be in the category of very dangerous phenomena in the territory of Severnobacki and Zapadnobacki Okrug (North Backa and West Backa District) on June 30, from June 29 to July 1 in the Juznobanatski Okrug (South Banat District), while the same warning is in place for the northern and parts of Western and Central Serbia mainly from June 27 to July 1, and in the Zajecarski Okrug (Zajecar District) on June 30.

The maximum forecast daily temperatures will fall into the dangerous phenomena category in northern and parts of Western Serbia on June 27, and in Zapadnobacki Okrug (West Backa District) on June 26, the Batut Instutute announced.
