The funeral of Ratko Mladic is taking place in Belgrade today, at the Topcider cemetery, and, as previously reported, Mladic will be laid to rest next to his daughter Ana.

The coffin with his body was in the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luka in Kosutnjak since early this morning, where citizens had a chance to pay their respects and express their condolences to the family.

Svetozar Andric, a member of a team organizing the funeral, told the media that Mladic's coffin will be accompanied to the cemetary by an honor unit of the Serbian Army, where the general will be buried with military honors, including a gun salute.

In addition to a huge number of citizens who arrived from all parts of Serbia, the RS, and Montenegro, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko, Milorad Dodik, Serbian politicians Darko Glisic, Aleksandar Vulin, President Vucic's son Danilo Vucic are also in attendance today, among many other public figures.

The former commander of the Army of the Serb Republic (VRS) Ratko Mladic died on August 27, at the age of 84 in the detention unit in Scheveningen.

Mladic died in the custody of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.

Ratko Mladic was born on March 12, 1942 in the village of Bozinovici near Kalinovik, now a town in the Serb Republic (RS, the Serb entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina). He graduated from the KoV Military Academy and the Command and Staff Academy as one of the best in his class.

Mladic started his military career in Skopje, now North Macedonia, in 1965, and during his service in the Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) he was in 1992 promoted to the rank of general-lieutenant.
