Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Tuesday addressed the nation:

"The previous years have been rife with challenges. Serbia went through a difficult period. Today there are wars all over the world, which threaten our country in every sense, economically and politically. All this time we managed to preserve stability. Serbia has managed its economy so that it is the fastest growing on the Old Continent. You, respected citizens of Serbia, have succeeded in that. But we had great political turbulence on the domestic political scene, with significant interference from foreign powers, we also had riots and conflicts, a divided society."

That is why, he continued, elections are necessary to show which path the citizens want to take.

"I believe that Serbia, as it has done in the past, must turn to modern technologies, innovation, artificial intelligence. In that division of labor, many will be damaged. We must look how to safeguard people and move forward," he said and added that any postponement of elections would jeopardize both EXPO, that will be held next year in Belgrade, and general progress.

"It's important that we respect different political opinions, the right to freedom of assembly. In the end, your decision is the voice of God and the people's decision must be respected. Please be careful who you put your trust in, bearing in mind the challenges I mentioned, both political and economic," Vucic said, addressing Serbians.

"Preserving our families and our society without divisions is a priority. Based on the Constitution of Serbia, based on the proposal from the Government, I issue a decree on the dissolution of the National Assembly," he said.

"I am making a decision to call elections," the president concluded.

Vucic announced that early parliamentary elections will be held in Serbia on October 25. The official procedures began on September 9 at noon, when he announced the signing of the decree on the dissolution of the National Assembly and the decision to call elections.

The campaign will last 46 days. Vucic called on all political actors to focus on the needs of the people during the campaign, appealing to strictly avoid violence and blockades of institutions that only harm citizens.

Vucic also emphasized that he will accept without question the outcome of the vote, and be the first to congratulate his political opponents, if they win.
