The police in the town of Ub have Slavko O. (44) under arrest - a man with a police record that shows he previously committed seven serious crimes. The reason for this new arrest is an unprecedented incident in which Slavko O. forced his 10-year-old son to shoot his business partner M.R. (25).

The showdown took place last night in the yard of a church in a village near Obrenovac. The victim man was transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds to his hands and his life is not in danger, while his neighbors have only words of praise for him, describing him as extremely hardworking and exemplary.

The reason for this clash most likely were the unsettled financial issues pertaining to sale of timber.

During the altercation, Slavko O. took out a gun, handed it to the boy and forced him to fire at M.R. The whole event was witnessed by a shocked priest.

The police quickly blocked scene, removed the child to safety and sent the weapon for expert examination. Slavko O., who has a record of illegal possession of weapons, timber theft, violent behavior and traffic accidents, will spend up to 48 hours in police custody before he is brought before a prosecutor.

"This is a man who has been filling police records for years and is well known to all operatives in this area. When we opened his file, we saw a whole series of reports - from illegal weapons and timber theft, violent behavior, and traffic accidents. But, to use a 10-year-old child as a living shooting machine and shove a loaded gun into his hands, that stunned even the most experienced inspectors working on the case," a well-informed source has told Telegraf.rs.

The case has been taken over by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office, and because of the involvement of a child, the Center for Social Welfare has responded urgently to provide legal and psychological support.
