The news that the Islamists executed Tomislav Salopek, who was kidnapped on July 22 in Cairo, echoed in Vrpolje as a bolt from the blue sky. While in the air, the fear of the outcome of his kidnapping was palpable, there was hope that Egypt would do everything to secure Salopek's release and return him safely to his family.

- The Salopek Family does not want to give any statements, please leave them alone. Unfortunately, the news came to them with the publication from the news agencies. None of them want to believe in the authenticity of the information. You can only imagine what it's like for them, I can only say that they are in a very difficult situation - says a friend of the family.

Nobody in Vrpolje wishes to make any statements, everyone is waiting for official confirmation of the information that came out of Egypt. What we can now confirm is the great resentment of villagers, relatives, friends, if what was issued by some agencies is proven true.

- Tomislav was a man who never raised his voice, let alone did something else. How could they hurt him, he's a man that would not hurt a fly - said friends that grew up with him.
