Small piece of Onofrio fountain, monument of invaluable culture, broke off in Dubrovnik when one of tourist leaned against it, but no one was injured.

According to eyewitnesses, at the time of the accident tourists leaned against the fountain, to fill the bottle with water.

President of the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities Niko Kapetanic confirmed of the event and said that the restoration will begin as early as on Monday.

- Our workers went to the scene to pick up the broken part. We will begin work on conservation on Monday. Adhesives are holding almost better than stone, but fortunately no one was injured - said Kapetanic.

Masonry work of this small masterpiece was the work of the sculptor Pietro di Martino from Milan. Reliefs of naked boys on the octagonal side of the pool, and the figures of dolphins with shells, kneeling boys on a column for collecting and pouring water express Renaissance worldview, though still reflect the Gothic mode of construction.

Otherwise, Onofrio's fountain is located near the western entrance to the city and has been completely rebuilt and works costed more than a million and a half Kuna, the works lasted nearly nine months ago.
