The Chinese Embassy on Wednesday thanked Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic for wishing a happy Chinese New Year in a message in Chinese.

"We are very grateful to the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, for congratulating, in our language, our President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people on the occasion of the Chinese New Year," the embassy told the daily Novosti, reacting to the message posted by the prime minister on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, there were allegations that the prime minister's message was misspelled.

The embassy also touched on that to state that the text was written in the spirit of the Chinese language and quite correctly.

"People must be aware that automatic translation, using internet tools, is wrong and that mistakes happen in that way, but these greetings were written correctly. We are satisfied and grateful for the sincere congratulations, it is a gesture of friendship between our peoples," the embassy said.
