North Macedonia expels five Russian diplomats

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia announced today that five Russian diplomats have been declared personae non gratae and ordered to leave North Macedonia within the next five days.

The Russian ambassador in Skopje was summoned today to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, where he was handed a diplomatic note stating which five employees of the Russian Embassy were marked as unwelcome persons, the ministry announced.

A statement said that, according to information received from the competent authorities, they performed activities that are contrary to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and will have to leave North Macedonia within the next five days, MIA reports.

Earlier, the North Macedonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs declared two Russian diplomats personae non gratae, one in May and the other in August, and expelled them from the country.

In both cases, Russia reacted with reciprocal measures and expelled North Macedonian diplomats from Moscow.
