Supply arrangement with Russia extended, Serbia gets CHEAPER gas!
Srbijagas public company General Director Dusan Bajatovic has announced that an annex to the existing gas arrangement agreement between Serbia and Russia was signed on Friday, and will be valid from June 1 to September 30.
The new deal provides Serbia with 6.1 million cubic meters of gas per day at a price of 290 euros (per 1,000 cubic meters), Bajatovic said, and added that gas for the industry will be cheaper, unless there are major market disturbances.
In the coming period, households will not have to pay more than they do now. The existing arrangement on the supply of Russian gas to Serbia expires at the end of May, and Bajatovic said that the annex extended the same conditions, as well as that the price was agreed according to the oil formula.
He told RTS that gas on the TTF exchange currently costs 360 euros per 1,000 cubic meters.
"That means we did well," Bajatovic stressed.
He added that in practice, this translated to several things, first of all, that Serbia will be able to fill the storage in Hungary with an additional 150 million cubic meters, as well as that the Banatski Dvor gas storage will be filled by the beginning of the heating season.
"There will be 385 million cubic meters of gas in the Gazprom storage, and 385 million cubic meters in the Srbijagas storage in Banatski Dvor, which means that we will be safe for the winter," said Bajatovic.
According to him, the amount of gas is not the problem, but that countries are now interested in Turkish Stream as the only route to Europe that works, adding that Gazprom's contract with Turkey expires on December 31 and now everyone is "eying" that route.
He emphasized that Serbia's goal is to reach an agreement with Russia on delivery of 8 million cubic meters per day, which will be stable and guaranteed, and at a price which will be a combination of the oil formula and TTF, as well as to ensure 4 million additional cubic meters for the coldest days.
"The Russians can guarantee up to two, 2.5 million cubic meters under these conditions. And the remaininig 1.5 million maybe they could release from Banatski Dvor, but we will see how the logistics will be dealt with. Those 4 million will be at a price called - best effort. So, the best price," said Bajatovic.
The Srbijagas director added that the next round of talks will take place between June 18 and 21 during the Economic Forum in Saint Petersburg.
