President speaks about why Trump's son-on-law gave up on redevelopment of General Staff building in Belgrade
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday that "US President Donald Trump and his associates" did not give up on redeveloping the former General Staff (Generalstab) building in Belgrade because of the authorities here, but because of a witch-hunt and pressure exerted by 'blockaders' (anti-government protesters).
Affinity Partners, the firm of US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, announced on December 15 that it was withdrawing from the project to build a hotel and a residential-business complex on the site of the General Staff building in Belgrade that was bombed and severely damaged by NATO in 1999.
"Trump didn't decide this because of us, this concerning the General Staff, that is, his associates didn't, the decision was made because of them (protesters), because of their pressure and because of the witch-hung that is conducted against then (Trump and associates)," Vucic said in response to a journalist during a news conference who wanted to know "if it was true that Trump once told him he had to choose between sitting on the American and the Chinese chair."
Vucic stressed that those who talk about corruption related to the General Staff project are also accusing Trump's closest associates of corruption.
"When they talk about corruption, they don't know that they are accusing Trump's closest associates of corruption all the time, and as you can see, not a penny showed up anywhere, not in payment transactions, in legal transactions. When thieves proceed from how they behave, they see a bigger thief in everyone else. This is what they do every day," said Vucic.
Vucic previously stated that Serbia lost an investment worth at least 750 million euros because of a campaign carried out by "blockaders" and pointed out that Serbia missed out on a great opportunity.
Meanwhile, the husband of the president of the provisional Pristina institutions in Kosovo and Metohija, Prindon Sadriu, took to X to call for a Trump hotel to be built in Pristina, on the site of Grand Hotel.
