Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia (UKP and SBPOK units), in cooperation with the prosecutors' offices in Belgrade and Vienna, broke up an organized criminal group that had for years been involved in production and sale of marijuana.

The arrests were carried out in Serbia, Austria, and Spain.

In a synchronized operation in the territory of Belgrade and the town of Bor in eastern Serbia, the police arrested the organizer of the group A.P. (39) from Belgrade, as well as members M.DJ. (49) and B.S. (35) from Bor.

The co-organizer of the group, D.S. (45), has been detained in Spain, at the airport in Madrid.

Laboratories in Vienna and property seizure

At the same time, four more members of the group, all from Bor, were arrested in Austria: S.M. (40), S.S. (52), B.R. (51) and M.T. (35).

During the search in Vienna, the police discovered three large laboratories for growing marijuana, thousands of marijuana trees in all stages of growth, 75 kilograms of dried marijuana ready for further sale, a large amount of cash, and expensive watches and luxury vehicles.

Elaborate scheme

It is suspected that A.P. and D.S. for years managed a network that distributed marijuana to the markets in Serbia, Austria, and North Macedonia.

Investigators found that lower-ranking members of the group would go to Austria, where M.DJ. and B.S. provided logistical support - from training them to grow marijuana plants, to renting houses and apartments where the laboratories were set up.

Detention and criminal charges

The suspects who were arrested in Serbia are detained by the police for up to 48 hours. They will be brought to the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade, along with a criminal complaint charging them with unauthorized production and distribution of narcotic drugs.
